Exhibition Concept: "Portraits of Regeneration"
What can art speak to in the daily life conducted at the boundary between life and death that is medicine? In the singular space of AFRODE CLINIC, treatment and creation, restoration and expression intersect.
Beginning with the tension of breath-holding moments in Tomohide Ikeya's underwater photography, eleven artists weave their own distinct narratives of "regeneration."
Water and Light, Time and Memory
Water is the source of life and a symbol of change. Light is a metaphor for hope and a means of documentation. The power of "frozen time" that photography as a medium possesses begins a dialogue with the movement toward "recovery" as a future.
Aesthetics of Boundaries
Health and illness, consciousness and unconsciousness—art gently dissolves the binary oppositions inherent in medical spaces. The white of lab coats and the red of blood, the scent of disinfectant and the fragrance of flowers. The beauty born from these contrasts reveals the sacred hidden within the everyday.
Ultimately, this exhibition expresses faith in the healing power that "expression" itself possesses. With hope that new forms of healing will emerge at the intersection where art and medicine cross.
